Pensions Update

Dear Colleague

I am aware that the future of Police Pensions is an issue of great concern for all police officers, particularly as the consultation process on a new police pension scheme is about to commence.
I can confirm that the Home Secretary wrote to John Randall, the Independent Chair of the Police Negotiating Board (PNB) on the 27th March 2012 outlining the government’s position for the future of police pensions and required both sides of the PNB to consider and respond to these proposals by the 22nd June. This reaffirmed the government’s intention to introduce a pension scheme for police officers in line with the recommendations made by Lord Hutton for all public sector workers, in that existing public sector pension schemes would be replaced by Career Average Schemes by April 2015. GMP Response To London Call

March in May. Final Numbers!

We are pleased to announce we have more than 1,200 off duty officers coming to London next week to protest against the Government's attacks to policing.

If you add together the coach loads of cops travelling down to the capital from the GMP area, our headquarters Progress House Team, and officers travelling by car and train, we have more than 1,200 members attending....

The march takes place next Thursday (10 May) in central London and will go past Parliament and the Home Office.
